Knee injuries occur to the knee joint. There is an assortment of knee injuries and they can range from acute to chronic. Acute injuries are extremely painful and occur suddenly. Failure to treat an acute injury will lead to the development of a chronic knee injury. Chronic injuries are caused by long term overuse of the knee joint. Chronic injuries can become acute where the injury flares up.
Some of the most common knee injuries are medial collateral ligament (MCL), lateral collateral ligament (LCL) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Athletes frequently suffer from the following injuries: dislocated knee, osteoarthritis of the knee, knee sprain, patellar dislocation and tibial plateau fracture.
